Lesson # 1 notes cont….. aljaromiyah

حروف الجر أو الخفض
١. من – للابتدأ – سافرت من مصر إلى مكة
٢. إلى – للغاية – خرجت من البيت و ذهبت إلى السوق
٣. على – فوقية – القلم على الكتاب
٤ – الباء – الاستعانة و الاستعاذة
٥ – اللام – للتمليك

Let me give you the rest from the Book

There are two حرفان that gives me hard time with their meaning and alhamdulillah i found it now.

First one: عن للمجاوزة – this is what Hans Wehr gave me as meaning of the word: to pass s.th. or by s.th. / go or walk past s.th. / to go beyond s.th. / overstep, cross, leave behind s.th. / also, ex.: جاوز الثاثين من الممر – he is past thirty

Second one: رب للتقليل – this is what our teacher mentioned, “perhaps, possibility” – isn’t it strange that i cannot find this word in the 2 dictionary, either Hans Wehr nor Mawrid. humm! i cannot find the tullab arrayeed either. I really looked to know the meaning of this word so much so i am sure of it. Alhamdulillah finally learned.

you see the list of meaning for 5 حرف on top, those i took from the notes as they had new info.

and inshaaAllah will post the 2nd class notes soon.

I like wordpress for its organization but i don’t like it for its poor formate of text size. My eye sight isn’t that great so i need BIG text size for Arabic.

Comments

  1. as salamu alaikum i am working on translating the sharh of al-aajurroomiyyah by uthaymeen here is what i translated about the harf 'an. may Allah allow me to finish this as a sincere act for His sake. ameen.

And from the meaning of (عن), is to pass over. You say: “I threw the arrow from the bow.” Meaning that the arrow passed the bow. Meaning left from it.
    وَمَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُخَالِفَكُمْ إِلَى مَا أَنْهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ
“I wish not, in contradiction to you, to do that which I forbid you.” (Surat Hood: 88)
Crossing. And Ibn Malik said: with عن you pass from who was intelligent.
    حَتَّى يُعْطُوا الْجِزْيَةَ عَنْ يَدٍ- until they pay the Jizyah with willing submission, (Surat at-Taubah: 29)
Meaning the jizyah passes by their hands moving from their hands to the hands of the muslims.

  2. taqleel is under qallala in hans wehr. form II of qalla meaning to reduce or diminish or decrease. it is also according to uthaymeen's explanation for taktheer- which is to increase. from kaththara which is form II as well. whenever you have form II the masdar will be on this wazn-takbeer or tasleem for example. in the sharh of it uthaymeen used the sentence "rubba rijaalin yamootoona min al-bard" - meaning "many men die from the cold." wallahu aalim

for the masdar, i thought of that but it didn't seem to make that much sense to me. but alhamdulillah i learned it now. i knew it was from that verb though. alhamdulillah.

  4. i hope Allah will benefit us all from your translation of the shar of aljaromiyah but i really wish it won't be translated because that is not how we should be learning Arabic... but jazak allahu khyaran kathiran for the effort. ameen.

  5. ya brother if you stop by again, can you tell me what does this word mean: التعدية

  6. التعديةi found it under 'ain, dal, waw. but i don't know it just says that in grammar it means-conversion into the transitive form. or it could mean-ferrying or ferry service.

  7. jazak Allahu khayran kathiran for the response.
