asalamualikum wa rahma tullahiw abaraka tuhu

i thought i should share this, maybe some of you will consider to benefit from both of these audio sets insha-allah, ALL FOR FREE DOWNLOAD.

I just found out today by going over both audios i had that there are two different classes of Shaykh Uthaymeen on the same book: Aljaromiyah.

first set is audio set that is converted to mp3 to keep on this side:
 all free download:
http://ryadussalihin.org/ar/acceuilutheiminau.php شرح مقدمة الآجرومية - the first link you see in this page. this same audio is sold in CD as .rm file, sad part but you don't need to waste your money like me. mash-Allah, well i got in a set of CD which had an audio series of dars that i hope is not online, if it is, then i at least saved downloading time but never mind i have to convert from .rm to mp3.

and the Second set of audio you find on shaykh site here: http://www.ibnothaimeen.com/all/eSound.shtml - go down the page to section # 14. there are few other books audios found there.

متن الآجرومية الجزء الأول  11tapes - 22 files
الآجرومية الجزء الثاني  16 tapes  - 32 files

you have to download then convert to mp3. i just finished converting, i wish i could share with you so you didn't need to spend time converting. just it is not too hard, put on convert and then do other things. insha-allah.

The first set of audio, you can follow this set with the book you find for sale in many stores, published by many publisher, one version is below which is the lowest price one, this is the one i have. but sad news is that, many things from the talk of the shaykh is missed in the text, so if you go over shaykh shar in text form, make sure you listen to the audio as well, you will understand the book much better alhamdulillah.

and the shaykh teaches so nicely mash-allah, you won't believe, it is like a class, he talks back and forth with his students, and after going over a topic, he asks many questions to students and then they answer and he corrects etc. really lovely mash-allah.

the first audio set also has Echo, that is why i was thinking maybe his site audio set won't have echo and will be same audio, but in my checking i found it different and also there is no echo, mash-Allah. so alhamdulillah. now i have 2 sets of audio to go over. alhamdulillah.

both set is great, it is both class form, shaykh talks back and forth through the class, but in first set it is less and in second it is more.

SO GO OVER both, following the book, you will benefit greatly, so long you can understand most of what shaykh is saying, don't hold yourself back, the shar is very detailed with many many examples and detail explanation, so you will understand at the end of each lesson most of what was taught. alhamdulilllah.

Learning Arabic
This advice is also useful inshallah, although it was given to me by my Spanish teacher in A'Levels, may Allah guide him to Islam.

It is also good that in addition to learning the language through books to listen to it often. And when I say often I mean every single day you should listen to a few Arabic lectures with Arabic only. Also another good way is to leave on the lecture when going to bed. This is because the brain absorbs information subliminally when sleeping.

Reading combined with listening is very fruitful as the person who does so can either hear speech that he has read or read speech that he has heard. Therefore, it would not be quite difficult for such a person to understand the language quickly.

Like if you all remember in Form 1 Secondary school when everyone used to use the Viva books 1,2 and 3 that they always gave us a casette with the book. This shows us the importance of listening in a language.

Also listening teaches us how to express the language and how to think in it. Many people may be quite literal in how they approach Arabic since they only learned it by reading it. This is not correct since Arabic is a very expressive language therefore one has to listen to the Arabs themselves speak and use expressions.

Some of the best tapes where one can listen to Arabic speakers are:

The tapes of Shaikh Ubaid Al Jaabiri- He speaks very slowly there someone can understand him easily.

The tapes of Shaikh Yahya An Najmi which are available on www.njza.net. He speaks slowly also and is very expressive in his speech.

Shaikh Muhammad Ibn Saalih Al Uthaimeen.

Shaikh Naasir Ud Deen Al Albani

The tapes of Shaikh Muqbil right before he died.

The tapes of Shaikh Ibn Baz, Shaikh Abdul Muhsin and Shaikh Yahya Al Haajuri. Although these three may proove difficult at first for the listener to understant it is good to play one tape constantly from them. This is because all three speak very quickly.

Also Shaikh Saalih As Suhaimi, Shaikh Muhammad Al Imaam, Shaikh Rabee' Ibn Haadi and the other tapes of the Ulama which are many.

And Allah knows best.

Arabic Dictionaries.
Just to share the download links and also online use and also online buying places of these dictionaries. [two left coming up shortly as well insha-allah]

Al Mawrid - PDF DOWNLOAD HERE - BUY HERE - This is an easy dictionary. However, Heins Wehr is better since it imitates the manner in which classic Arabic-Arabic dictionaries are written. Al Mawrid is written similar to how an English-English dictionary is written. But it is still good.

Lane's Lexicon - PDF DOWN LOAD - ONLINE USE SITE - BUY CD FROM HERE Or HERE BUY BOOK HERE - This book is the ultimate in Arabic-English dictionaries. Although the author, Edward Lane, died as a Kaafir his research in this was extremely good. He checked the libraries of Al Azhar and took from Lisaan Ul 'Arab, As Sihaah and Ta'aruj Al 'Aruus amongst many. This book reminds me of the Hadeeth: "Verily this deen will be aided by an evil man."

In terms of Arabic-Arabic dictionaries there are many but the following were what was recommended by Dr. Fa Abdur-Raheem

Mukhtaar As Sihaah - BUY HERE - This is a concise version of the six volume dictionary As Sihaah.

Al Mu'jam Al Waseet - BUY HERE - It is a dictionary that is highly recommended since it combines modern Arabic as well as classical Arabic.

As Sihaah - USE ONLINE - BUY HERE - Which is a highly recommended dictionary which consists of six volumes.

Also there are the well known ones like

Lisaan-Ul-Arab
- USE ONLINE - BUY HERE - DOWNLOAD HERE -

and

Ta'araj Al 'Aruus
 - BUY HERE - etc.

I read a story of how Shaikh Abdur Razzaq Al 'Afeefi told Shaikh Saalih Aal Ash Shaikh to read the whole of Lisaan-Ul-Arab (23 volumes) and the latter said it was too long. Then Shaikh Abdur Razzaq said: "You are not ready to seek knowledge..." So then Shaikh Saalih read it.

As for learning the words. Then one should try to go into the Arabic-Arabic dictionary first so that the meanings of the word would enter his mind in Arabic. However, if one cannot figure out the meaning he should look at it in the English language and go back to the Arabic afterward. In other words use the English-Arabic dictionary when needed.

Arabic Dictionaries.
Also my dear brothers and sisters there is the issue of Arabic dictionaries. If you are a beginner in Arabic you must have at least two dictionaries: One which is in Arabic-English and one that is in Arabic-Arabic.

From those dictionaries that are Arabic-English are:

Heins Wehr- Which is available by Manaf Muhammad. And this is a very good dictionary however it is problematic for the beginner to use it. Dr. Fa Abdur Raheem prefers Heins Wehr to Al Mawrid since Heins Wehr gets a student accustomed to Sarf (Morphology)

Al Mawrid- This is an easy dictionary. However, Heins Wehr is better since it imitates the manner in which classic Arabic-Arabic dictionaries are written. Al Mawrid is written similar to how an English-English dictionary is written. But it is still good.

Lane's Lexicon- This book is the ultimate in Arabic-English dictionaries.

Mukhtaar As Sihaah- This is a concise version of the six volume dictionary As Sihaah.

Al Mu'jam Al Waseet- It is a dictionary that is highly recommended since it combines modern Arabic as well as classical Arabic.

As Sihaah- Which is a highly recommended dictionary which consists of six volumes.

Also there are the well known ones like Lisaan-Ul-Arab and Ta'araj Al 'Aruus etc.

Also one can learn words in two ways:

(1) By reading the dictionary- This is beneficial but somewhat tedious. Therefore if one reads 10-20 words per day then it would be sufficient.

(2) By reading Arabic books and this would make the person want to go into the dictionary often to look at words. However the student has to be cautious of understanding it out of context. Therefore, in reading books it requires that the person reads from what is simple to what is advanced. Also if he/she can get into contact with a person who can explain certain points to them then this is beneficial.

And Allah knows best.

Books for learning Arabic
The best books for non-Arabic speakers to learn Arabic are:

The Holy Qur'aan: If someone is learning Arabic it would be easier for them if they have memorized a good bit of the Qur'an

The Sunnah: It is good to memorize books the likes of Hisnul Muslim, 40 Nawawi etc. Also I advise all those who want to seek knowledge but do not know Arabic to read the Hadeeth in Bukhari in Arabic even if it is 3 or 4 per day.

Simple texts with vowels: Like the three fundamental principles, the four principles etc.

By doing the above the student would develop the ability to read and understand Arabic to a certain degree. And when reading it is recommended to read aloud as this helps the tongue get accustomed to the language especially for those who live in non-Arab countries.

Then there are the series of books:

Madeenah books 1,2,3 and 4.

The series for Umm Ul Qura and Al Imam university. And from the small research I have done a lot of institutes use the Imam University cirriculum for Arabic Language.

These books help to extend one's ability to speak, read and write. Although books one and two are sufficient in the Madinah series since book three and four deal with topics that are within Ajrumeeyah for the most part and Binaa Ul Af'aal except in a few issues.

Then to solidify the language the following books should be studued:

(1) Ajrumeeyah : This book is a summary of the rules of Grammar and contains a lot of benefit for the one who studies it deeply or reads through it. The best explanations of this book are Tuhfah As Sineeyah and the explanation of Shaikh Uthaimeen. And the one by Shaikh Uthaimeen  is much easier as it explains these issues in detail.

(2) Qatr An Nadaa/ Mulhah Al I'raab/Mutammimah Al Ajruumeeyah/ Hidayatun Nahuw: These books represent the middle stage for the grammarian. However, if one wants to stop his study of Grammar with Mulhah, Qatr or the Mutammimah then this is no problem as Shaikh Muqbil studied Qatr An Nadaa many times when he was in Yemen. And if one is stopping at that level it is recommended by the scholars that he memorises one of the three.

(3) Alfeeyah Ibn Malik: This is the mother of all grammar books. It was written by the author when he saw that the people of Syria made serious grammatical errors when speaking, writing etc. And it contains around 1,000 lines of poetry based on Grammar.

In Morphology it has few books I know of personally and they go as follows:

(1) Binaa Ul Af'aal: This book is the most simple of them as it is quite easy to read and digest. Should be studied by all beginners.

(2) Laamiyah Al Af'aal: About 300 lines of poetry if I am not mistaken. But very difficult. One of my friends from Somalia said when their Shaikh started to teach that book most of the students ran.

(3) Shadh Ul 'Urf: This is another simple book but unlike Binaa Ul Af'aal it goes into the many different meanings of the word rather than one.

(4) Al Mughni Fee Tasreef Al Af'aal: A good reference book for Sarf and very detailed.

Other things to do:
  • Listen to a lot of Arabic. The more you hear Arabic lectures, tapes, khutbahs the easier it will be to speak.
  • Read aloud in Arabic. And if one can read to someone who knows the grammar better yet. And reading aloud helps to make the tongue accustomed with the language
  • Abandon all English books. Ok not all but most. As dependence upon English will hamper your learning. When I was in Madinah this is exactly what I did and Alhamdu lillah it worked.
  • Speak in Arabic even if you make a lot of mistakes at first. I read in a website that some Malaysian students said it is more loved to us to make mistakes in Arabic than to be correct in our language. And face it Trinis, if it was that you did not want to make any mistake in language you should not speak or write any English at all. And even Shaikh Ul Islam has a statement that it is not good to speak in other than the Arabic language.
  • Take it easy: Do not think that because you learn a little bit of Arabic that you know it all. Rather continue learning and developping and after some years you will see results inshallah.
And as for those who do not have a teacher I advise them to travel to one. If not find a class over the internet. If you cannot do so then take book one and try to find tapes and explanations pertaining to it and whomsoever fears Allah, Allah will find a way for him.

---> "Our da'wah and our 'aqeedah is more beloved to us than our own selves, our wealth and our offspring. So we are not prepared to part with it for gold, nor silver. We say this so that no one may have hope in buying out our da'wah, nor should he think that it is possible for him to purchase it from us for deenaar or dirham. Since the politicians already know this about us, so they have despaired of buying it from us with granted positions or wealth." <-
